Covid-19: Quarantine & Self-Isolation Regulations

  • Any  person  who  is  diagnosed  as  suffering  from  COVID-19 infectious disease shall, immediately upon receiving an oral or written order, as the case may be, from the Superintendent of Public Health, submit himself to self-isolation and shall remain in self-isolation until the Superintendent of Public Health revokes the oral or written order.
  • This order shall apply also to persons who live in the same residence to such person.
  • Any person who fails to abide by the provisions of these regulations shall be:
    • guilty of an offence
    • liable to the payment of a penalty of €10,000 for each and every occasion that this period is breached
  • Any person who has arrived in Malta from any country must submit himself to a 14 DAY period of quarantine immediately upon his arrival in Malta.

This order shall apply also to persons who live in the same residence as the person referred to in sub-article.

  • Any person who fails to abide by the provisions of these regulations shall be:
    • guilty of an offence
    • liable to the payment of a penalty of €3,000 for each and every occasion that the quarantine period is breached
  • A Police officer, detailed to confirm or otherwise the observance of the Enforcement of Directions relating to Quarantine Regulations,  2020,  who  discovers  that  a  person  has  breached  the conditions relating to quarantine imposed upon him, shall hand over to the offender or affix in some conspicuous place at the address of the offender a notice containing:
    1. the nature of the offence;
    2. the place, time and date of the offence;
    3. the signature of the Police officer handing over or affixing the notice; and
    4. information as to payment of the penalty.
  • The offender may pay the penalty in respect of the breach in such manner as shown in that notice within 15 DAYS of the termination of his/her quarantine period.
  • If the said penalty is NOT paid within this period, proceedings shall be instituted before a Commissioner for Justice in respect of the offence in question.
  • Any person who comes in contact with a person diagnosed as suffering from COVID-19 infectious disease must submit oneself to a 14 DAY period of quarantine immediately upon receiving an oral or written order, as the case may be, from the Superintendent of Public Health.
  • EXCEPTION: The Superintendent of Public Health may, in her absolute discretion, suspend the provisions of this order or provide for other conditions, by notice in the Gazette, where, in the opinion of the said Superintendent, the quarantine of certain persons providing an essential service be subject to different conditions.
  • Whenever any person who is subject to mandatory quarantine requests a service from any:
    • public servant
    • public officer
    • person employed with a government department or government entity
    • private individual
    • private entity

which service requires the entry into the premises where quarantine is being effected, such person shall inform the person/entity providing such service that he is subject to quarantine.
